The Stories We Share: Staff Sharing
Why I Love Joyful Harmony
This series is inspired by a famous Classical Philosopher Zhuang Zi who is known to share his views by telling short tales and dialogue between the imaginary and reality. They are often entertaining and will make one ponder. Using elements of nature’s path in behavior, it reflects naturalist reflections in life. From the first look, the polished round surface magnifies the fish swimming partially within water and captures my full attention. To me, this is the beginning of the dialogue that will transverse one into the world of nature. The fish is swimming happily and looking forward to swimming along with the other. The combination of fish and taihu rocks forms a perfect unison. They mirrored each other in joy. When you look at the artwork in different directions, detailed carving of crevices and texture of the rock brings fluid movement, the fish whose smile is magnified along with uplifting blue green crystal hue radiates a positive vibe. This is one of our artworks that expresses modern and the zen concept.
Why I Love Precious Harmony
This is a scene of two fishes playfully swimming, playing “Hide and Seek”. They meet each other under the lotus leaf then swim away, and quickly turn back around and meet up for a rendezvous. You can see the lotus leaf with a stem that goes straight down to the bottom of the pond, yet flexible like a Baroque music, as if the lotus is shyly playing along with the fishes. Lotus leaves symbolize harmony, goldfish means abundance and good luck, showing off the elegant movement of pure beauty in life. The philosopher Zhuang zi sensed the joyful harmony of these fishes, looking down from the top of the pond. We can’t stress enough how life should be this playful, joyful and harmonious.
Why I Love Beauty Lies Here and There
The sculpture “Beauty Lies Between Here and There” belongs to the collection “ A Window into Zhuangzi's World” where you will find artworks featuring two animals’ interaction in scenic backgrounds. That is also the frequent setting of the famous philosopher Zhuangzi’s stories.
Spring is my favorite season because it is the beginning of a new year; it is when the weather becomes warmer, animals and plants are awakened from dormancy during the long and gloomy winter. It bestows refreshing and positive energy to people. Therefore, this artwork caught my eye when I first learned about the collection. On the verge of the jagged and barren rocks bloom the dainty clusters of peach blossoms, the pair of jiling birds dearly looking at each other brings affection and liveliness to the scene. Tranquility juxtaposed with vitality, the artwork depicts a picturesque springtime scenery that conveys a positive omen. The peach blossoms - harbingers of spring, symbolize a good beginning and love, while Taihu rocks pertain to preciousness and prosperity. It is interesting that this sculpture can be displayed on both sides, which shows the contrast of the rugged texture of the water-weathered rocks versus the smooth and shining facade. The idea that “all matter is connected as one” from the Song dynasty is emphasized in this design.
Why I Love Bloom of A New World
“Bloom of A New World” is the first design that sparked our classic LIULI Flower series. This series joins all elements into a complete circle – fulfillment will come as a whole. The study of each flower takes months to research; the best angle, detail, color and lighting to capture the perfect moment. This fusion creates the ancient land-scape painting effect brought to life with Liuli.
A flower that strongly represents Spring, the Lily blooms fully from March to May. This artwork depicts an elegant lily in resplendent bloom along with the tranquil surroundings of nature. Blushful, upright and serene, it welcomes a good beginning and stands tall to overcome all boundaries. An ancient saying “ 百年好合“ , hundred years of harmony is to symbolic to what we hope inside. The aromatic scent of Lily aims to permeate all that is good from within. This artwork comes with a matching crystal base to enhance the individuality and beauty of the artwork.
Why I Love Red Radiance
When spring comes, nature responds to the warmth of spring energy. The soft wind is in the air, it whispers to the flowers to get ready for a new beginning. Feeling of spring pervades nature, it may awaken our spirit uplifted, and delighted sunshine welcomes a fresh start. As we face spring, the “Red Radiance” may bring us closer to enjoy more of this hopeful season. It has the moth orchids to deliver a message. The moth orchid means the arrival of fortune in classic Chinese literature. When it blooms, it looks like a moth with wings opened for a flight as a gesture to be ready for fortunes. They are seated at the corner of a square base, their petals are soft as spring winds, the sweet colors are gently infused into them, and their three dimensional shapes create interesting compositions from every angle.
Why I Love Joy Heralds Spring
LIULI Crystal Art is known for showcasing traditional Chinese symbolism and playing with homonyms and meanings. In this design, Joy Heralds Spring, two oranges symbolize good things coming in pairs, representative of positive energy. In addition, oranges are considered good fortune because the Chinese character Ji for orange shares the same pronunciation with the Chinese character luck and fortune. Ji appears in relief as part of the design on one of the oranges. From a western perspective, Chinese characters look like graphics and the character Ji, 吉 displays a symmetry that echoes the double oranges’ well-balanced meaning. The other symbol contained in this design is a peony pattern on the other orange and a peony blossom on the stem. Peonies symbolize prosperity and wealth. It is considered King of the Flower. Combining luck (orange) and prosperity (peony) in the same design makes this artwork a great home décor piece and a perfect housewarming gift.
Why I Love Four Blessings- Spring Peach of Longevity
The thought of Spring is already making our heart beat faster. I like this Spring peach artwork because it has many juicy plump pink and peachy tone peaches, surrounded by a heart shaped nest. While Peach symbolizes Longevity, blessed by the Sun light. We know that a good fruitful life is ahead of us. For Mothers, Grandmothers, daughters and friends. Let’s enjoy our sweet peachy moment.
Why I Love Rise of the Dragon
The dragon is the uppermost mythical creature that was widely worshiped to bring rain & good harvests in Chinese culture. This blue color of the dragon's body can be interpreted as its very important characteristic which controls water (skies, seas, rivers, mist, and rain) & climate. It is seating on top of the universe to show everything is under its control. The posture with five claws shows confidence, and the body curve expresses flexibility. This meaningful dragon artwork can be well presented to the customers who are into power & authority. From the Chinese history (Han dynasty, 206 B.C. – A.D. 220), the dragon was adopted as a symbol for the emperor and became a potent emblem of imperial power. Also, the appearance of the dragon was often marked by the birth of a great man or dynasty. It is associated with power, and furthermore it is an auspicious symbol of protection & good fortune.
Why I Love From Taiji Comes The Dragon
The original form of Taiji is formed by two fishes encircling each other. It forms a yin-yang cycle of balance and harmony. In Asian culture, round shape symbolizes heaven and square shape means earth, they form a combined firm foundation. This artwork is a fusion of heaven and earth, balance and harmony. The sides are infused with same element, one on top and the other below to reflect the balance and strength The majestic dragon is known to straddle between heaven and earth, moon and stars. Vigorous, vital and honorable, the dragon is powerful and unstoppable. The intricate carving of the dragon is meticulously carved from the inside and is shown on both sides. The five clawed dragon is of highest authority, its claws are spread open embracing heavenly protection. The details of the dragon are intricately carved and the scales look as though it is glistening next to the sun. It is soaring from the clouds, overlooking the earth in an upright posture. It makes a modern statement design as a centerpiece.
Why I Love Celestial Dragon
This artwork depicts a dragon on a different scale than we are used to seeing. In this piece, the dragon is positioned behind a cloud and atop a mountain. It overlooks the land from its perch as if it understands how the world operates. This design is one of my favorites because it combines the traditional figure of a dragon with an asymmetrical modern base. The cloud shape has a wavy flow which contrasts the square base. This shows how life can be contradictory but as long as we have a firm base, we can still enjoy freedom in this vast world.
Why I Love So Spirited
The dragon is the most iconic symbol out of all mythical animals. This zodiac dragon animated version is cute and small yet, this figurine has a vivid line of Dragon’s horns and eyebrows. It makes the dragon look so proud. And its affordable. If anyone wanting to have a piece of LIULI it would be this. From a child to a grand parent who would not want to have a dragon statue in their homes?
The dragon is the symbol of primordial power. It is master of all elements: fire, water, air and earth. As a spirit guide, it makes a powerful ally in our daily life with its amazing restorative and potent qualities. Below are common meanings associated with the Dragon spirit animal. It has many good qualities such as; supernatural, leadership, protection, transformation and Wisdom! This artwork called “ So Spirited” will make you feel So lifted.
Why I Love Lifted by Wind, High above Clouds
Every time when someone ask me “If there is only one artwork you can choose, which is your favorite?” Without hesitation I will reply “Wow that’s easy, this beautiful Phoenix Lifted by Wind High Above Clouds”.
I have been with LIULI family for over 10 years and this artwork always strike a chord with me. The color and details are captivating; from the front, embedded feathers forms a beautiful 3D polished curve and the back of the artwork is a surprise -visually stunning. The intricate carving of tiny feathers converging into a splendor of waves is eye-catching.
The phoenix is a symbol of a queen, beauty, grace and never-ending cycle. Our Artist Loretta, who was a former renowned actress creates the phoenix to look like a performance on stage. The slightly curved neck is beckoning one to “Look at me, look at my beauty and elegance.” Customers who purchased / will purchase this artwork from me are Beautiful Queens. It reminded me of a beloved customer who had recently deceased, she loved colorful artworks. Her first reaction when she saw this artwork was the same as I did 10 years ago.
Why I Love Red Radiance
Orchids are my favorite flowers because they mean the arrival of happiness. The artist design a concave space to carry beautiful, small but significant things in life. What’s very special is the highlight of red liuli bead at the center that symbolizes the confluence of all happiness. While red color means auspiciousness in Asian culture, I feel this rounded and red bead carries my wish for all beautiful things in life. I feel warmth and happiness in this piece.
Why I Love This Lifetime - Lanyu Scops Owl
I personally collected one piece at home. When I first saw this artwork, I was absolutely attracted by its movement, facial expression and colors. It’s not just a design about the owl, but also the meaning behind the whole collection, which is “Believe and You shall See” that honored LIULI’s roots in Taiwan. Every detail in this artwork is filled with sincerity and meticulousness. It’s also a practice of LIULI’s mission of ”To continuously create art for the good of the heart”.
Why I Love Rise
Horse is a classic theme in LIULI. It symbolizes success, honor and freedom. The art piece “Rise” is an amazing design which has a pair of gorgeous wings and robust body. The horse forelegs raise high up with confidence. The mixture of the colors blend well with the design. The horse stepping on the clouds represented its breakthroughs in the midst of obstacles and reach the victory.
Why I Love Only With Compassion
Guan-yin is very peaceful and one could feel the light shining outwards by closely looking at it. I’m also in awe when I discover the inscription of The Great Compassion Mantra on the back of the artwork. It makes it whole. It is very moved to know that artist Loretta H. Yang’s persistence in sculpturing Guan-yin and her mission to create the largest liuli Guan-yin ”Wish of the Lifetime”. I like to appreciate all kinds of Guan-yin designs because each of them carries different stories, and every sculpture is unique because of its creator. I believe the artist is kind and benevolent so that she could create a Guan-yin with this compassionate and peaceful face and aura. It is a realization of LIULI’s motto "To Continuously Create Art for the Good of the Heart".
Why I Love Golden Jade Joy
The emerald green color and the hand-made gold foil elevate the touch of opulence. This artwork consists of two parts: the goldfish on the top part is made by pate de verre, and the bottom is a treasure vase made by blowing glass. Contrast in still and movement, two parts jointly create a new dynamic. The treasure vase could be used to keep coins which symbolizes fortune, or to carry pieces with precious memories. No matter what is in the treasure vase, it is unique to you. So, let the treasure vase be the carrier of all beautiful things in life.
Why I Love Heads Up
How can someone not love French Bulldog? A clumsy and cute image just makes people want to love it. No matter where the master goes, it always looks at them with angelic eyes. Whenever there is occasionally frustration in life, you could always feel a loyal friend that gives you all the love in the world. It is the most faithful and good friend in our life.
Why I Love A Free and Idle Heart
I always like this Guanyin statue. The Guanyin is smiling and gives me a carefree feeling. Looking at the design of the rising cloud, it makes me feel like getting away from the pressure of life, and providing a room to breathe and rest. The texture and pattern on Buddha's clothes seamlessly merge with the cloud on the base which creates a unifying peacefulness. Like the rising and floating clouds, our troubles went away and become carefree.
Why I Love Indomitable Heart
This is a brilliantly designed piece of world-wide known Chinese zodiac as a subject matter portraying unity.
The Chinese zodiac is a repeating cycle of 12 years and each year is represented by an animal and its unique characteristics. The artist successfully articulated all different zodiacs in concrete detail. It is joyful to look at them to see how they are diverse in shape as we, people are individually different, and yet they are lined up in order to work in partnership.
They are holding each other and their facial expressions illustrate how hard they are putting their efforts to get the radish out. They are delivering a common goal to achieve together and it is for sure that being united will be paid off and bring a fruitful result, Good Fortune.
“Indomitable Heart” shows an unstoppable spirit of teamwork and it is recommendable artwork for many occasions to families, groups, organizations, etc.
Why I Love The Splendor of Phoenix
Why I Love Song of the Morning Flower
Hibiscus, also known as the big red flower, is the national flower of Malaysia. I have seen various colors of hibiscus in its natural color, but I have never seen a blue one. Liuli hibiscus satisfies this imagination. In the “Song of the Morning Flower” there are two flowers, the large one is in full bloom, as if it’s enjoying the most glorious moments of life and calmly welcoming the withering of life. The other small one, which looks like the younger generation to me, is appreciating the older generation’s splendor, learning quietly, and waiting for the right timing and opportunity to step onto the main stage. This artwork is like the song of the circle of life, one generation after another.
Why I Love The Allure of the Spring
It reminds us that it's spring time. Two siskin birds sitting on a persimmon’s branch signifying that this is a joyful time, and the spring is coming with fortune. Two siskin birds are sociable and active, even acrobatic. They sing throughout the year, twitter and trill. This is a very romantic artwork, and is perfect for courtship or wedding anniversary.
Why I Love Living In Peace
Urban life is very stressful, and most of us have to take on different challenges every day. This artwork can be displayed on the desk in the office. When we feel anxious, we may spin the prayer wheel, the action signifying sending troubles away. Not only in the office, I would suggest that this artwork can also be placed at the entrance of the house, when off to work, spin once as reciting the sutra and praying for everything goes well all day long with safety and auspiciousness. On the other hand, this blessing can also be extended to family and friends. Hope they are healthy and happy.
Why I Love Joy Heralds Spring
At first glance, I feel the vitality of the artwork strongly because the shape of this artwork is attracted by the exaggerated and vivid leaves. A pair of orange at the bottom symbolizes companionship. A Chinese character "Ji 吉" means great auspiciousness. The detailed peonies pattern on fruits and leaves represents the richness and gorgeous beauty. The peony pattern also echoes the first visual impression of LIULI. It is a signature yet fresh design in LIULI.
Why I Love Prosperous Heart, Prosperous World
In Singapore where I am originally from, peonies are not often seen. The climate in SouthEast Asia makes it difficult to grow. When I moved to the US, I was awed by different types of peonies available.
Going to the florist each time is a treat to my eyes, the full bloom of the peonies is simply breath-taking, every petal is full of splendor, riches and color. It looks so fluffy and contented.
Peonies play an important part to us - the queen of all flowers, our packaging, screens, hand painted walls in the gallery to collection by The Corning Museum of Glass. It represents Liuli.
The reason why I like this artwork is even though it’s small, the craftsmanship of the flower is superb. This palm size artwork glows and reflects when it’s raised towards sunlight. It holds a special meaning to me, the little prosperous peony is beauty from within.
Why I Love Imminent Spring Dance
Whether it is the artistic beauty of the design or the superb craftsmanship, it is a representation of LIULI’s signature creation. I was born in October, so maybe it’s the reason why I like orchids. The artwork is beautiful and elegant, and represents independence in the world. People often use the orchid to describe beautiful temperament for ladies. The poets across generations and dynasties all praised the orchids for their elegance and purity. In this creation, the petals’ color is set accurately. All colors are distinct in lifelike look. It always reminds me of one scene from a poem: “Orchid is the king of flowers, its fragrance is in the breeze".
Why I Love Imminent Spring Dance
During this pandemic, I clearly sense that there are so many uncontrollable things in the world, and in life. While some things are frustrating, and some are exciting, we started to reflect “How is my life ? What can I do? In this dark moment, I also realize that everyone’s choice is connected, as the description of the artwork "Imminent Spring Dance”
“A hint of fragrance
Thaws
The stark northern wind.
A gentleman’s intent
Excellence upheld.”
The fragrance of the flower might disappear in the air some time, but the spirit stays. If we could unite and be the mainstay of our times, the spirit will carry far and influence more. Be the best of ourselves at all times, we will be resilient and stand upright in adversity. Spring and hope are not far away. Be strong for tomorrow!
Why I Love Success Begets Success
Why I Love Swim Toward Freedom
This is relatively smaller in size, however, it uses symmetrical designs to mimic real water reflections. Just like Chinese philosopher Lao Zhi once said, “The highest good is like water. The Great virtue embrace all .” The vast sea is like the boundless sky, and the fish swimming freely and firmly within. I like to watch this fish looking at oneself and the ripple, it’s natural and beautiful. This art piece is an encouragement for me. It speaks to me in a clear voice: be brave, be clear to oneself, and move forward with persistence and courage.
Why I Love Heavenly Pine
It is a poetic , gently calm, and yet upright creation.
It reminds of an evergreen pine tree in a bold trunk standing firmly toward the sky on a rocky soil where winter wind blows from nature. It doesn’t matter whether it is cold or snowing, its beauty lasts all year long with soothing scent and wide-spread needles show its vitality. This peaceful landscape scene is brought inside by our artist in the form of Ruyi.
Ruyi literally means “as you wish” and a ceremonial scepter symbolizing power and good fortune. Combining Ruyi & evergreen pine trees in one design greatly represents the meaning of longevity and auspiciousness, and it makes me longing to give it to my loved ones.
Why I Love Heavenly Pine
LIULI’s highly sophisticated use of pâte de verre showcases the detail of pine needles and branches and a base that resembles the surface of a rock. The tree emerges from the stone as a symbol of fortitude. The green pine and transparent rock visually conveys a noble brightness. The pine is an evergreen.
The liuli pine extends in a lush expanse to symbolize vitality and auspiciousness. It is the wish for longevity, peace and health.
Why I Love Heavenly Pine
This artwork is based on the traditional Chinese symbol—“Ruyi". It is designed with evergreen pine trees that symbolizes longevity and strength. I like its simple design that is full of tranquility and strength.
The questions I am often asked by customers are: “What is Ruyi? Why is it always a long length ?”
Read More...In fact, in earlier days in Asia, it used to be the scratching stick that was used to scratch the itchiness on the back during the Chinese Warring States Period. It has a folk name called “Without Asking for Others”. Since the stick was introduced in the emperor Palace, there were significant changes in the usage. Royal family kept its meaning but removed its practicality, and used it as a symbol of auspiciousness and interior decorative objects.
From the historical records, we can see that the nobles of the palace often use it as a personal collection or as a gift. When the emperor is enthroned, at the wedding or the emperor's birthday, the civil and military officials prefer to choose Ruyi as a gift because it represents so many good meanings. Just as its original name “Without Asking for Others”, we take control of our own lives, and wish that everything goes well and live a life of good fortune from the symbolism of Ruyi.
The Liuli artists use the material of crystal glaze to make various designs and extend this traditional Chinese symbol. I personally think that if it is viewed from the perspective of the history of Chinese art, it really means a lot.
I sometimes like to stand in front of this artwork to enjoy the feeling of tranquility. Thinking about our artists’ inspiration based on these Chinese history, and knowing that they have superb designs to give "Ruyi" more new look-styles in nowadays, I only want to say: “It’s stunning!”
Show LessWhy I Love Arising Through Contentment
Out of the designs from the series A Chinese LIULI Flower, Arising Through Contentment captures my heart. The concept of this series is to represent the cycle of life. When a flower is fully bloomed, it represents the most beautiful moment of time and our Artist has successfully used pate de verre to capture the scene. The flowing dancing petals from Iris reminds me of ups and down in life's journey, we have to learn, deal with different situations to eventually emerge to be wise and free. Iris symbolizes rainbow or light, it gives hope to everyone who looks towards clarity. Purple is one of my favorite colors, the fusion of different shades on each petal makes the artwork more alive. The sharp edges of the leaf blending into the softness of flowers creates a perfect symphony. Looking at this artwork always makes me feel care-free and happy, feel like dancing along the flower and life.
Why I Love Golden Gourds of Fortune
This is a prosperous & blessing piece. The gourd had traditionally been used to carry medicine signifying good health & longevity and it resembles number “8” which is auspicious and good luck.
Based on the auspicious fundamentals, we can add decorative aspects to it for interior design elements. It has plenty of bowl space to put fresh fruits, different sweets such as candies, chocolates or cookies inside, even plastic gold coins to maximize auspicious meaning. Or it can be used as a creative candle holder plate for flowing tealight candles with water.
As imaging it on a coffee table or kitchen counter at home, it may give us a moment of wishing for good health. Being healthy is the essence of prosperity & happiness.
Why I Love Tomorrow is Mine
This artwork is one of the collection series of "Ascending Qi Gives Rise To Earthly Harmony ". The white radish is portrayed in a very simple and natural look itself without adding too many other design elements.
At the beginning, this artwork attracted my attention because I was so surprised that radish is very ordinary to be found anytime in the market, now it could be the art subject.
However, when I knew that Liuli artists created this series of artworks, their inspiration behind them came from the very famous classic book I-Ching left by Chinese ancestors.
Read More...As we know that the book I-Ching is full of the philosophical wisdom from Chinese ancestors, so it is also regarded as the top-one among those related books. It may seem esoteric, but in a nutshell, it is a book that comprehensively covers astronomy, geography, and humanity. The book can teach us how to face nature, how to get along with people, and how to gather the Qi in order to get a harmonious feng shui.
When I knew that the artist actually used the profound wisdom of the Chinese people as the source of inspiration for art creation, I felt so meaningful and appreciated.
While enjoying this series of artworks, we can deeply think again: when nature breeds the endless power, how can humans face nature with the Qi which are from all directions and how to make them in a smooth flow in order to grasp the good luck?
To sum up, this artwork looks natural and simple. On the contrary, the title of the artwork is full of encouraging power. I am very touched.
